Innovative green maritime solutions have manifested Value Maritime’s role in the future greener shipping agenda. At Green Instruments, we are proud to have taken on a central role in this journey.

The future of greener shipping – the concept behind CO2 capture

While most of us can agree that actions must be made towards a greener shipping future, there are many ways to do so – one of them being carbon (or CO2) capture. Value Maritime is the first company in the world to install a CO2 capture and storage facility onboard an operating vessel. The concept behind Value Maritime's installation is based on their own technology to remove CO2 from the vessel’s exhaust gas. The captured carbon is then stored within a CO2 battery and transported to shore from where it is distributed to surrounding greenhouses, using CO2 to nourish their crops. A circular system that reduces the vessel’s CO2 footprint – making carbon capture a part of the sustainable agenda.

A joint agenda

The CO2 capture module of Value Maritime is an add-on for the Filtree-installation; a plug-and-play gas cleaning system. Green Instruments is proud to have taken on an important role in the puzzle, supplying our MEPC.340(77) compliant water – and multi gas monitoring systems to monitor and document the efficiency of the Value Maritime installation – a role, we have had since the beginning of Value Maritime's green journey: “We have collaborated with Green Instrument from the very beginning. They were one of our first suppliers” underlines co-founder and director of Value Maritime, Christian Nijst. Together, our initiatives are central to ensuring environmental compliance – and protecting our precious environment for generations to come. An important agenda and long-term collaboration appreciated by both parties, confirmed by Christian Nijst, “We are happy with our longstanding partnership and are grateful that they believed in us and supported our mission to greener shipping from the start”.

Training for success

Familiarity with system operation is a key aspect in ensuring effortless operation. Therefore, representatives from Value Maritime took the opportunity to visit Green Instruments' training academy. During their training sessions, the visitors from Value Maritime emphasized, that “the training was flexible with a lot of room for discussion and requests”. Green Instruments’ highly skilled training personnel made sure to cover areas such as calibration, maintenance, modifications, software updates, and much more with vivid inclusion of the participants. At Green Instruments, we are pleased that our training course has left the participants feeling confident in operating Green Instruments' products, and certain that, “If we have any uncertainties we are sure that Green Instruments will provide us with the answers” – sure we will.
