Based in Northern Jutland, Denmark, Green Instruments, manufacturer of measuring equipment for emission control, water and gas analyses in the shipping industry, has grown in near warp speed the past few years. In a planned step-down of its current CEO and co-owner Oluf Sigh, Morten Brandborg, former CEO of Wärtsilä Denmark, will join Green Instruments as new CEO. Oluf Sigh will stay on as a member of the board.
Brønderslev, July 6, 2021 – Close to 90 percent of the world trade is transported by ship, and even though ship transportation is a relatively climate-friendly means of transportation, the sheer volume of cargo shipping makes the associated exhaust gasses an environmental problem child. Therefore, since 2020, the shipping industry has been forced to reduce the discharge of sulphur and other particles and not lease measure and document the reduced discharge.
This task requires dedicated measuring systems for the scrubbers inside of ship chimney, which Green Instruments has specialized in developing. The company has done so with such great success that the number of employees has gone from 25 to 75 in just a few years. At the same time, the turnover has sky-rocketed from 30 million DKK in 2017 to more than 250 million DKK last year. Green Instruments’ equipment is sold around the globe via sales subsidiaries in Denmark, USA and Singapore.
A vital part of the company’s success is attributable to former CEO and co-owner Oluf Sigh who has worked closely with the company’s employees in achieving the significant growth and globalisation of the company. Now, the time has come for a planned change of CEO and hence, Oluf Sigh is replaced by 46-year-old Morten Brandborg who will head up Green Instruments from September 1st.
“We have been through a number of very expansive years and has seen our turnover climb from a modest 30 million Danish kroner to more than 250 million Danish kroner last year. Nonetheless, we see no reason why Green Instruments should not be able to continue its growth, and we are therefore very happy that we’ve been able to attract an experienced industry specialist like Morten Brandborg. He has created great growth in Wärtsilä Denmark, and we feel confident that he is the right person behind the steering wheel in Green Instruments moving forward”, chairman of the board Karsten Ries comments.
Morten Brandborg too looks forward to joining Green Instruments as new CEO.

Green Instruments last year won the prize EY Entrepreneur of the Year Regional Final, “Succesvirksomhed 2020” and was announced the municipal winner of the business competition Tag Fat 2020.
